I have a young son who likes to eat all my food; fortunately I love cooking. I also love cars and shoes, and I'm a sucker for pretty things/people. I spend too much money on accessories my bike doesn't need. I like reading and correcting grammar. It may seem like I'll be quite irritating, but really I'm charming.

I arrived as a temp in SMC in 2005, having completed my Pop Music degree, naively turning up with my Sony Walkman. MICKY LYNES – Stock control

I joined SMC in early 2010 as a stock controller after being in sales for 6 years previous. After completing a 3 month project for SMC and seeing how the company works and meeting the staff, it was very clear in my mind that SMC was where I would love to work.

My hobbies include, playing golf, driving and any sports.

I always like to get away to the continent 3 or 4 times a year to recharge the batteries. A large part of my life was taken up playing volleyball around the world professionally. STEVE BARRETT – AV Manager

I joined SMC in 2003, it was my first real job since finishing university and taking a year to travel around the world with my girlfriend. It was a scary interview as I had no real experience of the custom install industry, but I desperately wanted to be a part of it.

I started as a trainee engineer and after about a year and a half became a senior engineer heading up my own team. I loved the challenges of my work and the fact that I was teaching the skills that I had learnt to a new junior engineer. I have now moved into the position of AV Engineering manager which is a new challenge for me as it is less practically based.

In my free time I enjoy eating (in and out) and love cooking - especially desserts! I like listening to all sorts of music and making it myself; I DJ with vinyl - mainly dance music played through my limited edition Fat Boy Slim B&W speakers (won in an SMC raffle!) I like films - my favourites are action movies, I enjoy fishing, and have a real passion for gardening - mainly to grow fresh vegetables but also for the flowers too!

ALEX MENCZYKOWSKI – Designer

I joined SMC in October 2010 after spending over 2 years at a design consultancy in my home town of Hitchin, Hertfordshire. Outside of my working life, my interests mainly consist of two things - Music, and Manchester United.

My favourite bands and genres are constantly changing, and I find this is due to a combination of my inability to stop digging and a very short attention span. The first album I ever bought was Black Sunday by Cypress Hill (I was 9, and it was confiscated almost immediately). My favourite football club will never change.

TIM CARTER – Team Leader / PM

I joined SMC as a designer in 2000 after serving an apprenticeship with Ford Motor Company and completing a degree in furniture design. I moved into project management after a few years and now head up a project team. My engineering and design background has helped me grow within the company and overcome many challenges along the way.

Tom Willamson – Operations

After many years struggling as a failed musician I knocked on the door of SMC and they kindly let me in. Nurturing me away from a rock 'n' roll cliché, I worked away in the engineering department and could regularly be found busying myself behind a rack. 5 years later and after a brief stint as a Project Manager, I now work in the Service Team.

My favourite tool to date has got to be my ck flush cutting side cutters. They are literally an extension of my arm and are used everyday at work. Lost a pair earlier this year and was very lost without them so went straight back to the wholesalers and brought exactly the same pair again!

As I'm here on extended stay from New Zealand I love to travel and being in London is a great location to get about Europe. I still find it fascinating that in two to three hours you can be pretty much anywhere in Europe so I love to take advantage of that as much as possible.

In my spare time I like play a bit of squash and workout. It's always a great way to finish the day so I get down to the gym as much as possible. After a while I decided to get involved in networks, falling back on my Uni degree in Computer Science. I enjoyed this period which lasted until the Thornwood Gardens project needed a manager. With my experience I jumped at the chance and I have been managing multi-dwelling units for plc developers ever since.
