Steve Moore formed SMC in 1993. Steve had previously set up the immensely popular specialist hi-fi shop known as The Cornflake Shop in London which gained a great reputation and was regularly recommended in the FT, The Daily Telegraph, The Face, Time Out, Q, GQ and NME. In the early years SMC designed and installed specialist 'whole house' audio and video systems in the homes of high net-worth individuals with clients including Mick Jagger and Alan Rickman. The work quickly expanded from private clients to assisting audio manufacturers such as Linn Products and formalising the UK installation industry along the lines of the CEDIA organisation previously set up in the United States.

In 1994 SMC won their first large residential development at Observatory Gardens. From here many more prestigious developments soon followed including sites at Earls Terrace and The Bromptons. Business was won and core relationships founded with national UK property developers such as Berkeley Homes, Laing and Barratt.
