UK’S FIRST DOLBY ATMOS STEINWAY LYNGDORF HOME CINEMA

The existing cinema within this property was dated and in need of an upgrade. The client’s brief was to produce a high-quality cinema, with the latest and best technology available, that his family could enjoy whether they’re playing Xbox or having a movie night.

 

The room was designed and remodelled to accommodate the UK’s first Dolby® Atmos™ Steinway Lyngdorf home theatre system. This design incorporated the Steinway Lyngdorf P200 processor.

 

We installed a Steinway Lyngdorf 7.2.4 set up in a relatively small space. This included 7 Steinway Lyngdorf Model S15 speakers at ear level, with 4 in-ceiling speakers and 2 custom in-wall Model LS boundary woofers. The boundary woofers were modified to fit discreetly in to the joinery while ensuring sound quality was not affected. We re-ran all the cables and redesigned the joinery to discreetly house not only the boundary woofers but all electronics, hiding any interconnecting cables. The overall Dolby® Atmos™ specification was a 7.2.4 array, rather than the more traditional 7.1 or 5.1 Dolby pro logic systems.

 

A 75” Sony screen was installed along with a 110” drop down screen and Sony 4K projector operated by a Future Automation projector lift, to conceal it in the ceiling when not being used.

The property already used Lutron lighting throughout so we updated the keypads and reprogrammed the scene setting control in the cinema to allow the lights to be adjusted to the desired mood at the touch of a button, mobile device or touchscreen. We also installed heavy, automated curtains at the entrance of the room to blackout all light for the cinema application.

 

Crestron’s control system allowed management of the display devices and source inputs, including Apple TV, SkyTV, Kaleidescape and Xbox.
