13 Apr SONY BRAVIA A1 4K OLED HDR TV: PRICE AND RELEASE DATE REVEALED
This week Sony have announced pricing and details on the European release for its BRAVIA A1 OLED 4K HDR TV.
After being unveiled in January at CES 2017, the new Sony screen has stirred up a lot of interest because of its exculsive Acoustic Surface technology. It has now been set to hit the European market in May 2017, with pre-orders already being taken.
Last week we were lucky enough to showcase the A1 screen at our Immersive Home Cinema event. The event allowed our guests to see firsthand the excellence of the Acoustic Surface technology.

Specially designed actuators are positioned on the rear of the set; two on the left hand side for the left channel and two on the right hand side for the right channel. These actuators invisibly vibrate the screen to create sound waves. This means that voice and sound are accurately projected from where they appear on the screen. So it’s the total fusion of sound and image together.
The other benefit of this acoustic technology is that you get a very wide sound stage. So that means you’ll get great quality audio no matter where you are sat in the room tying in nicely with OLED’s inherent very wide viewing angle. The actuators take care of mid and high frequency sounds. For low frequency or bass sounds, there is a sub-woofer built into the stand that’s hidden at the back.
As the A1 TV is an OLED TV there’s no back light. Instead each and every pixel and there’s over 8 million of them, is its own light source. That means you can get incredible black levels and bright highlights and you also get that very nice wide viewing angle. The OLED panel is not the only factor for great picture quality, the picture processor Sony uses – X1 Extreme -makes sure they can leverage the very best quality from the panel. The X1 Extreme delivers better noise reduction, detail enhancement, and colour as well as contrast upscaling, and smoother degradation so you get a fantastically smooth picture quality.
Pairing the X1 Extreme with Triluminous Display technology means you get very vibrant, natural, true to life picture quality and can display that very wide range of colour that you particularly get in 4K content. For 4K HDR content the X1 will support HDR10, HLG (High Light Gamma) and Dolby vision. So that means you can enjoy your 4K HDR content from a wide variety of different sources.
