21 Oct TECH UPDATE 2020: LOCKING UP IN LOCKDOWN
What technology mattered most?
If your Zoom kept crashing you were toast, so this was a key area of focus for our customers. So was exercise with a number of frustrated gym-goers and Peleton/Zwift users exploring ImmersiveGym for their now projects. But it was security that SMC clients – particularly those in London – were concerned with most. There is increased anxiety, generally, at times of social change and civil unrest – but people in cities appear to feel this more keenly than most.
Did you know that, as well as designing and installing intruder alarms, SMC offer a full Secured by Design service, including specifying the performance characteristics of glazing, doors, gates etc. We also design a lot of safe rooms – spaces where homeowners and their families can retreat if they are concerned someone unknown is in – or trying to get in – their home.
In these cases people are buying time and reassurance. We deal with a number of celebrities and other high-profile clients and are very conscious of security throughout the project. We know that discretion is critical from the start. We install full perimeter detection (for large country estates as well as London houses) including thermal cameras, buried cables (to reliably detect human ingress) etc. – in many cases linked to a local or in-house security team.
We’ve recently completed a project with steel lined bedroom and bathroom walls and doors, as well as a covert floor hatch that can be lifted to gain access to a secret staircase leading to an exit in a neighbouring property. We’re also working on an astonishing new build home in with night vision cameras, biometric entry and full safe room with concealed steel shutters behind regular doors and blinds – all with independent air supply, water, internet, CCTV and covert egress.
