Rundell Associates, long-time SMC champions, enhanced and refined the traditional rooms (including the stairwell, drawing room and master suite) and completely transformed the lower levels to allow for open-plan family living and a separately accessible guest apartment.

Security is a priority for this family, who enjoy living in London’s west end, but seek a calmer, safe environment when they’re at home. SMC worked closely with the clients, supporting them in their previous accommodation, and listened hard. As a result, we designed a super-secure, future-ready home with minimal visible technology. Crestron equipment was used behind the scenes, partnered with performance audio solutions from Sonance and others. Traditional switch plates were selected, and motion sensing used to keep things as simple as possible. A high-specification home cinema was installed in a multi-purpose family room. Parties are catered for by DJ locations and concert-grade audio in the leisure area, where the swimming pool floor raises to allow for dancing and entertainment. The client particularly enjoys the built-in underwater speakers and the astonishing garden audio set-up, concealed within planting, which allows for family events without disturbing the neighbours.

Heating and cooling are operated from understated bronze wall-controls whilst overarching control is available using an iPad, which illustrates energy use, as well as providing access to security cameras, WiFi settings and so on. A truly contemporary living experience in an elegant, traditional home.
