Assessing the lighting requirements for each project ensures your design can reach its full potential. Considering the placement of a light source and the way it reacts with the materials around it can help to maximise the impact of the architecture and interior effectively. Lighting is an element of the interior design that can change often to suit the needs, whether light and bright, more atmospheric or whether you wish to accentuate specific features in a space. Our lighting designers spend a lot of time building mock ups and models to assess how light will behave within each space. With their knowledge and understanding our lighting designers create beautiful schemes from a technical and creative point of view.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Exterior lighting schemes often offer a level of freedom not afforded inside a building. We approach each scheme with fresh eyes considering careful integration of the equipment in the landscape and the local environmental conditions to ensure our schemes are reliable and durable. Many schemes require very little light to add drama and we are always careful to avoid light pollution and glare to surrounding properties. A good exterior lighting scheme should enhance the garden in the summer months when the spaces are in use, but also enhance the view from the house in the darker months of the year. Good lighting should add drama, allow way finding, assist security and enhance the visual scene of a garden space.

When designing the lighting control system for external areas it is best to implement it as part of the main system to achieve a seamless transition between internal and external spaces. Lighting scenes in external areas can be programmed to operate automatically, depending on the time of the day or ambient light levels, as can automated shades.

ART LIGHTING

Our experience of illuminating art and sculptures is very broad, from small and large scale paintings through to sculptures and large scale public works. We have lit pieces both in private homes and pieces hung in clubs, restaurants and galleries. Mocking up paintings in full size in the studio ensures that lighting is perfect once installed. Our installation drawings allow the fittings to be installed correctly, final focussing is then carried out on site by a member of our team to ensure the concept is perfectly implemented.

ARCHITECTURAL COLLECTION

The architectural collection illuminates and enhances building design through carefully designed lighting systems. This collection is a very useful selection of lighting products designed and made by us to deliver light just as its required. All our linear products are made to the exact lengths required and arrive labelled and bench tested to ensure your lighting is perfect. We understand lighting and the importance of simple, well made fittings that do exactly what they claim, with good colour consistency, smooth dimming and good durability.

design COLLECTION

A beautiful selection of handmade fittings borne out of years of creating unique spaces for our clients. We simply thought it wrong to keep these lights hidden away on a shelf in our offices and decided to share them! From our raw copper spotlights and floor wash fittings that patinate from the moment they are first handled to a soft greeny grey over time, through to our Clear Drops pendants which hang like droplets in the sky and contain hand gathered razors shells, wild grasses or artichoke blossoms. The design collection is the moment for the ‘light’ to be the star rather than the lighting

SUSTAINABLE COLLECTION

The UrbanLicht sustainable collection is a collection of light fittings created using urban waste. Our recycled concrete exterior lights contain 70% recycled materials and can be recycled again at end of life. Our range of recycled acrylic light fittings are made using a unique 70% recycled plastic product called ‘remade’. We are constantly developing new design using recycled industrial waste. If you have a project where you would like us to design lighting for you using recycled materials please get in touch. When off-the-shelf lighting solutions won’t work or you need something to fit a unique space then speak to us. We are specialists in this area and work from your architectural plans and ideas (or leave it up to us). We start by 3D visualising the concept into your space.

DETAILING

Once you are happy with the concept we then break it down to the specific components, creating engineering drawings to cost up the production. We can also create working prototypes from 3D printing and other methods so you can get a real feel for the concept.

COME TO US WITH AN IDEA

If you have an idea for a light fitting, but don’t have the means to take it any further, then all you need is a simple sketch. We can take it from there! We can take this, understand what you need, and start by 3D visualising your concept. Then prototype and through to production.
